Associate Compliance and Privacy Officer Duties: Ensure that the business affairs are conducted in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws and in accordance with Code of Conduct and Ethical Behavior and its policies and procedures. Serves as Privacy Officer and is responsible for managing the organization’s efforts to comply with the Privacy Rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Report to the Chief Compliance Officer and designated Board Committees on the status of the corporate compliance program. Collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer to provide written reports to applicable Board Committees, including Thomas Jefferson University’s Risk, Audit and Compliance Committee, regarding the structure, process and substance of the corporate compliance program.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required. Accounting, law, or healthcare administration degree highly preferred. Accounting or law degree highly preferable. Certification with any of the following organizations desirable: Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). 10+ years of related industry experience including at least 2 years of compliance experience. Must have extensive knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and HIPAA regulations, particularly those that involve reimbursement and privacy issues. Solid understanding and experience with health care operations, particularly those related to medical record documentation, financial administration and use or disclosure of protected health information outside of the organization. Sound judgment and strong negotiating skills are needed to best protect Aria’s interests when dealing with external regulators and investigations. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels and operating areas. Required to make presentations to Board members and represent the organization’s compliance interests to external regulators and various industry associations (e.g., HAP, the Health Care Compliance Association). Effective analytical, writing, public speaking and word processing skills are necessary. Must be able to interpret standards, analyze complex compliance issues and develop practical, effective solutions, which may include the collaborative development of new policies and procedures. Must be able to work independently and prioritize time wisely.
