Assistant Director of Career Advising Duties: Reporting to the Dean of Career Services, the Assistant Director assumes leadership for the coordination and delivery of professional development and career counseling for students of the Law School. Responsible for assisting with all aspects of administering, planning and implementing the mandate of the office for J.D. and domestic and international LL.M. students. Administer and independently manage professional development and counseling services for students of the law school. Counsel J.D. and LL.M. students in all aspects of their professional formation and job search activities including: administering and reviewing self-assessments; creating career roadmaps; narrative development; drafting career documentation; preparing for successful interviews; identification of potential legal employers, career paths and work environments most consistent with their personal and professional needs, etc. Conduct professional development workshops related to the OCS Professional Development Curriculum and Professional Formation program for each class of J.D. students and for LL.M. students. Topics include: (i) navigating the professional workplace, (ii) resume writing, (iii) narrative development (iv) personal leadership, (v) practice area exploration, (vi) the strategic job search, etc. Stay abreast of legal recruiting industry trends by periodically reviewing relevant publications and other resources, attending conferences and symposia, participating in NALP, NYCRA and similar conferences/committees. Assist the Dean of Career Services, Senior Director of J.D. Advising and Senior Director of Alumni and International Career Services in the development of innovative programming, coursework and events for J.D. and LL.M. students. Assist in refining/editing office publications and communications sent to J.D. and LL.M. students, planning and executing special projects/events and undertake other related tasks as requested.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, JD Degree, MA, or EDM preferred. Must have 2-4 years' experience in the legal field, counseling field or in another professional field. Experience should include career counseling, program planning and/or professional development experience; prior employment in a law firm, academic or other professional environment preferred. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Computer literacy required. Familiarity with Simplicity a plus.
