Assistant County Attorney Duties: The candidate will maintains knowledge and follows the Texas and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the Texas and Federal Rules of Evidence, the Texas and Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, the Texas Rules of Professional Conduct, the Harris County Personnel Regulations, and the policies of the County Attorney. Ability to use the case management database. Prepares for court hearings and trial. Prepares and files briefs and motions within the deadlines established. Makes well-reasoned settlement recommendations to the client and/or commissioners court. Completes the required hours of continuing education in related courses. Makes oral presentations and speeches. Develops persuasive oral and written arguments. Ability to interpret the Judge. Maintains a positive, professional and pleasant attitude/demeanor toward co-workers, the Judge, the court staff, other county employees and members of the public. Ability to be flexible in scheduling/hours of work and work late or on weekends to meet deadlines. Works well with others by sharing/accepting duties and responsibilities. Provides and accepts positive feedback and constructive criticism. Does not participate in gossip or negative discussions about co-workers, county employees or members of the public. Ability to adjust well to new or changed office policies and procedures, to new or changed assignments, supervisors and co-workers. Remains calm in stressful situations and avoids emotional outbursts. Maintains a professional image and proper courtroom demeanor. Participates in lessons learned meetings after major hearings or trials to discuss what you did right and explore ways to improve. Works on special projects in the office and assists other attorneys with their cases. Ability to simultaneously work on more than one lawsuit, more than one project, and prioritize multiple assignments and deadlines. Ability to handle large discovery production. Completes assignments in the most efficient way possible, accurately, and early or on-time. Promptly responds to phone calls, emails, and other correspondence. Maintains a good attendance record working a regular schedule and longer when needed. Ability to delegate work and not spend unnecessary time on non-work/personal activities and unnecessary tasks. Proactively keeps clients informed about the status of cases. Meets promised deadlines in the office and outside the office. Improves efficiency by delegating tasks to paralegals, decreasing turnaround times and streamlining work processes. Reduces the number of continuances and extensions requested. Closes files at the appropriate time. Must have 5-10 years of pqe and a Juris Doctorate degree. Deadline: 05/18/2017.
