Physicist, GS-1310-09/09 Duties: The candidate plans and conducts own work procedures to be applied in support of projects assigned to higher grade physicists. Incumbent is required to make independent decisions concerning standard practices and procedures in performance of multiple tasking. Performs scientific assignments consisting of a series of interrelated tasks or problems screened by a higher grade physicist. Assist higher grade physicists in finding solutions for problems requiring a variety of data-sources and scientific disciplines. Participates in the research, collection, investigation, and application of scientific data and their relationship to the assigned area of study. Develops written summaries to be used by higher level physicists, contractors, and or customers. Presents briefings or presentations as required. Keeps abreast of emerging techniques and professional developments to remain current in the scientific field for application to work assignments. Uses computer/computer software tools to solve scientific problems and facilitate work.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: The candidate should have a degree in physics; or related degree that includes at least 24 semester hours in physics; or, have a combination of education and experience demonstrated by coursework that is equivalent to a major in physics (at least 24 semester hours), plus appropriate experience or additional education. Additional Qualification for GS-09: The candidate must have one full year (18 semester hours or the equivalent) of graduate level study, or a Master's or higher degree, e.g., LL.B., J.D., LL.M., Ph.D., in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of this position. Such fields include business administration, industrial management, industrial engineering, industrial psychology, public administration, political science, or government. OR Have at least one year (12 months) of specialized experience, that provided knowledge to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower qualifying pay band or equivalent grade under the General Schedule (GS) or other pay systems. Equivalent experience may be at the level of the lowest GS grade covered by the applicable pay band; however, the experience must demonstrate KSA's to successfully perform the duties of the position being filled. OR Must have a combination of graduate education as described above and the type of specialized experience as described above, which when combined would equate to 100%.
