Assistant General Counsel - Legal The candidate will report directly to the SVP & General Counsel, and serve as a strategic legal advisor to company leaders in the organization. Provide legal advice and counsel in support of a variety of areas, such as employment and labor law, physician practice acquisitions, physician contracting, patient care matters, hospital-related law, HIPAA/privacy, and litigation. Serve as lead employment and labor counsel working closely with the System’s Chief Human Resources Officer and team to, among other duties, oversee all employment practice liability claims (litigation and administrative agency), handle labor arbitrations (and/or overseeing outside counsel in this area), and provide advice and counsel to managers and human resources professionals. Provide legal advice and counsel on a variety of issues related to company’s hospitals and other entities with a focus on patient care matters, HIPAA/privacy, physician practice acquisitions and physician contracting issues, including related healthcare regulatory matters. As part of the role’s overall litigation management, assist in providing in-house legal support to the Risk Management Team related to patient claims and medical malpractice litigation. Work collaboratively with outside counsel while carefully managing outside counsel fees and expenses in accordance with the Department’s budget program and requirements. Establish and maintain effective and positive relationships with business leaders at all levels of the organization while providing top quality legal support. Develop, support and maintain collaborative working relationships with other Team members. Perform special assignments as needed. Undergraduate college degree and Juris Doctorate degree from a nationally recognized school of law required. 6+ years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney (4+ years must be relevant law firm experience) required. Experience supporting healthcare providers required.
