Real Estate Attorney Job Description

A real estate attorney is a professional dealing with issues related to real estate and property - including home purchase transactions, foreclosure, the tenant-landlord relationship, neighbor disputes, land use regulation, trespassing, and much more. Real estate law covers a wide range of issues related to acquiring, financing, developing, constructing, leasing and selling commercial and residential real property of different kinds. Qualified real estate attorneys represent and help their clients in a range of residential and commercial real estate issues including real estate investment opportunities, acquisitions and sales, real estate construction and development, farm acquisitions and sales, landlord/tenant matters, leasing, land use, zoning, eminent domain, financing, refinancing, mortgages and foreclosures, and other real estate matters. Their aim is to protect clients for committing expensive mistakes, faults in the documents, errors in the figures and other problems that could lead to litigation or other expensive legal action. They also offer their expertise in real estate disputes, real estate broker issues construction defects and mechanics liens, and land use and zoning matters.

Lawyers can specialize in various subcategories of real estate law including: Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Agricultural, and Landlord-Tenant. Construction Law or Environmental Law are some other areas of law where the lawyers can specialize. A full understanding of real estate laws, statutes, relevant government agency releases, and court decisions is required.

The candidate should have 7-8 years of experience. Substantial experience working with private equity funds in connection with acquisitions and financing of real estate assets and institutional lenders that originate loans for the CMBS market is required, preferably with lenders. Must have business experience that can be converted into client relationships and substantial experience running transactions with minimal oversight. Outstanding academic credentials and law firm experience are required. Must be admitted to the New York Bar.

Real Estate Attorney

The candidate should have 3-6 years of experience, with strong drafting and transactional skills. Experience with leasing, financing, construction and environmental matters all helpful. Connecticut Bar membership is preferred. Must have strong academic credentials and excellent research, writing and oral communication skills.

Attorney - Real Estate

The candidate should have 2+ years of experience in real estate transactions, excellent academic credentials. Must have significant leasing experience.

Attorney - Real Estate

The candidate should have excellent academic credentials and 4-6 years of commercial transactional experience.

Junior Attorney - Real Estate

The candidate will focus primarily on commercial real estate finance. Excellent academic credentials from a top-tier law school required. Should have 2+ years of experience in representing financial institutions in lending transactions, including syndicated credit facilities, private placement of notes, and acquisition financing.

Finance and Real Estate Associate

The candidate should have 3-6 years of commercial real estate investment and fund experience including the preparation of real estate fund documents, representing institutional investors in private real estate funds, preparation of joint venture agreements on behalf of institutional investors and general experience representing funds investing in commercial real estate. Large law firm experience strongly preferred. Must have a J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school and be an active member in good standing of the Bar.
