'A bilingual paralegal is a paralegal who speaks more than one language and utilizes his or her language skills to enhance his or her paralegal work. Bilingual paralegals are in demand in many practice areas, including immigration law, corporate law, family law, and international law. Bilingual paralegals perform a myriad of tasks, including helping communicate and translate for clients, reviewing documents written in foreign languages, and assisting with drafting contracts and legal pleadings. Because bilingual paralegals are not attorneys and have not been admitted to the bars of any state, bilingual paralegals must always work under the direction of a practicing attorney. Here are a few sample bilingual paralegal job descriptions: Bilingual Paralegal/Case Manager The candidate must be bilingual and should have 1 year experience handling personal injury claims, or related experience handling medical or insurance claims. Should be personable, have customer service experience, as well as be able to work with Outlook software. Ability to use Needles or other case management software would be a plus. Bilingual Paralegal / Legal Assistant - Immigration Law The candidate will be responsible for: substantial direct interaction with clients to gather facts and documents, accurate completion of government forms, preparation of requests for relief under various immigration programs (visa petitions, adjustments, consular processing, naturalization, waivers), management of caseload and deadlines, preparation of affidavits and responses to government notices. Prior work with Immigrants, paralegal experience, or Bachelor's degree preferred. Must be fully fluent in both Spanish and English. Should be detail-oriented, willing to learn, committed to helping immigrants, hard-working, able to work independently and write persuasively, professional in dress and demeanor. Bilingual Paralegal The candidate will assist with a very busy immigration practice. Must have a paralegal certification and/or 2 years of experience working in a legal setting. Prior experience is a plus. Bilingual Paralegal Duties: Highly organized by establishing and organizing files; calendaring and monitoring deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software; Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people (class members, individual and/or named plaintiffs, or class representatives) regarding the status of case; Helps develop cases by assisting in drafting complaints, discovery requests, preparing responses to opposing counsel; deposition summaries, materials for mediation conferences; assist with preparing pleadings; monitoring and obtaining discovery responses; Enhances electronic filings by organizing evidence, preparing exhibits; Enhances trial proceedings by organizing evidence, scheduling witnesses, ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed; taking court room notes; Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications. Bilingual Paralegal The candidate will assist in Immigrant Rights Campaign. Will consider recent graduates. Should possess strong written and oral communications skills, including public speaking, as well as strong research abilities. Spanish fluency required. Activities include: Giving "Know Your Rights" presentations and conducting brief client intakes. Interviewing and assisting victims under attorney supervision, and drafting written work products. Mastering substantive areas of immigration law as it applies to helping domestic and sexual assault survivors. Bilingual Paralegal The candidate responsibilities are as follows. Professional demeanor in communicating with adversaries, clients, medical staff, police, etc. in an effort to provide clients with above satisfactory service; Updating legal documents to provide to courts, clients and adversaries; Drafting letters to clients; Maintain calendars; Assists with trial preparation; Schedule clients' appointments with medical and trial experts. Associates degree required. Advanced degrees a plus. Fluent in Spanish, both written and verbal, is required to discuss important information with clients. Should have computer proficiency. Part-time Bilingual Paralegal The candidate will specializes in the representation of corporate Japanese clients in business immigration matters as well as individual clients in family immigration matters. Will assist attorneys by conducting legal research and fact investigations and preparing and drafting legal documents for a wide range of immigration cases. Japanese proficiency is required. Must be fluent in Japanese. Must be organized and have good attention to detail. Must be able to handle and effectively work simultaneously with a high-volume case load. Must be able to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues. Some experience in immigration law preferred.'
