Lovells appoints Vanco to handle WAN

Business law firm Lovells has signed a three-year agreement with Vanco, a global virtual network operator (VNO). Vanco will design, implement, and manage Lovells' global wide area network (WAN) by providing end-to-end connectivity, support the firm's critical business applications, and deliver a platform that will enable development of voice and video services. According to the contract—which is worth more than $2.3 million—Vanco will deploy MPLS, DSL, and IP-SEC services to 23 locations in 14 countries in Europe, North America, and Asia. The solution will help the firm enhance performance and make its network more cost-effective. An international law firm with 26 offices in Asia, Europe, and the United States, Lovells advises many of the world's largest corporations, financial institutions, and governmental organizations.

Leading video solutions provider ties up with large law firm
In a press release, leading video solutions provider Glowpoint, Inc., announced that another large law firm has opted to use the company's full range of managed video services. The Glowpoint Enabled Solution connects customers' private networks to its video network and service platform. It offers services such as gateway access for ISDN “off-net” calling, live video operator service, on-demand and assisted multi-party video conference calls, and video mail mailboxes. The law firm will utilize the company's services at seven locations in the United States and one in Europe. Growing rapidly in the legal arena, Glowpoint serves more than 40 law firms.

Paralegal invents document-handling tool
Having worked in a large international law firm as a paralegal and having identified the need for a tool for collating and assembling files and documents, Albert V. Guzman created Spinder™. The patent-pending product will be marketed by Duquesa Marketing, which promises that the product will save time in offices with large quantities of documentation work. The labor-saving device is slated to be launched in the spring of 2007.

Donald Liebman joins Proskauer Rose
Prominent real estate tax attorney Donald Liebman has joined law firm Proskauer Rose, LLP, as Senior Counsel. Working from the New York office, Liebman will provide counsel to the firm's real estate clients and help grow its real estate group. Liebman represents institutional and real estate clients in a variety of property taxation matters, from strategic real estate tax planning to trial and appeal. Prior to joining Proskauer Rose, he worked for Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, LLP. Proskauer Rose is one of the nation's largest law firms and has offices in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Boston, Boca Raton, Newark, New Orleans, and Paris.

Former clerk of courts and magistrate joins MA law firm as of counsel
Former Clerk of Courts and Magistrate for Worcester County, MA, Francis A. Ford has joined Fletcher, Tilton & Whipple, PC; he will serve as of counsel in its litigation department. With a focus on personal injury law, Ford will work on litigation and dispute resolution. He is the president of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, the philanthropic division of the Massachusetts Bar Association. Fletcher, Tilton & Whipple has 40 lawyers working in offices in Worcester and Framingham.

Holland & Knight hires former U.S. Representative Jim Davis
Having recently hired former Florida Governor Bob Martinez, Holland & Knight, LLP, has signed on another lawmaker. Former U.S. Representative Jim Davis has joined the law firm's legislative and regulatory practice. Davis, who lost the Florida governorship race to Charlie Crist, will work in the firm's Tampa and Washington, DC, offices and advise clients in the District of Columbia and across the U.S. One of the largest law firms in the world, Holland & Knight has 1,200 lawyers and concentrates on litigation, government, business, and real estate matters.

GSA officer to join law firm
The General Services Administration's chief acquisition officer, Emily Murphy, will join Miller & Chevalier in its government contracting division. Working with Angela Styles, a former administrator for the Office of Federal Procurement Policy, Murphy will assist the firm with developing its advisory services for government contractors. Established in 1920, Washington, DC-based Miller & Chevalier has attorneys working in the areas of tax, government contracts, government affairs, litigation, employee benefits, fraud and white-collar crime, and international law.

National law firm hires three partners and seven special counsel
National law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, LLP, has announced the appointments of three new partners and seven new special counsel for its offices in New York and Los Angeles. The partners are Kevin J. Curnin, who will handle pro bono work; Anthony H. Schouten, who will handle structured finance matters; and Karl J. Wiemer, who will serve as a partner in the corporate department. The special counsel are Charles E. Cantine and Angie M. Hankins, specialists in intellectual property; Peter F. Jazayeri, who will work on energy matters; Richard R. Johnson, who will handle litigation; Scott M. Le Bouef, who will work on corporate matters; Andrew W. Moritz, who will handle financial services litigation; and Michael J. Niborski, who specializes in entertainment law. Stroock & Stroock & Lavan provides transactional and litigation services to multinational corporations, venture capital firms, and investment banks both in the U.S. and internationally.
