Nelson Mullins adds seven attorneys
Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough has added seven business litigators to its Charlotte, NC, office from Kilpatrick Stockton, bringing its total to 25 attorneys in that office. Nelson Mullins is based in South Carolina and has nine offices throughout the Carolinas, as well as others in Atlanta and Washington, DC. Atlanta-based Kilpatrick Stockton now has 27 attorneys in its Charlotte office.

Buchanan Ingersoll acquires Burns Doane Swecker & Matthis
Buchanan Ingersoll has acquired Burns Doane Swecker & Matthis, an Alexandria, VA-based intellectual property boutique. This boutique also has two California offices. The deal adds 55 lawyers to Buchanan, bringing its firmwide total to 400 lawyers in 14 offices.

Baker & McKenzie will be expanding its London structured finance and capital markets practices with the addition of four partners from Norton Rose. The team will serve out a 12-month notice period as Norton Rose looks for replacements.

Womble Carlyle continues its growth
In Charlotte, a five-lawyer corporate group has joined Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice from Atlanta-based Morris Manning & Martin. The North Carolina-based firm now has 67 lawyers in its Charlotte office, while Morris Manning is left with five.

Weerasinghe nominated as Senior Partner at Shearman
The policy committee of Shearman & Sterling has nominated New York capital markets partner Rohan S. Weerasinghe to be the next senior partner. Pending a June 8 vote by partners, Weerasinghe will succeed David W. Heleniak, who left earlier this month to become vice chair of Morgan Stanley. A dual U.S. and Sri Lankan citizen, Weerasinghe would be the first Asian-American to head Shearman & Sterling.
