08/06/12 NJ City Hires Six Law Firms To Deal With Lawsuit Against City Employees Municipal officials in Paterson, New Jersey, have hired the services of six law firms to defend the city and its employees from a lawsuit filed against them by a mother of one of the four victims of a fatal fire in June 2010. The contracts to the law firms are worth $130,000. The lawsuit is targeting the city's record of enforcement of code violations at the building where the fatalities occurred. The Passaic County prosecutor's office has already said that it was the faculty wiring that caused the fire and filed manslaughter charges against the landlord. The county at first hired only Hunt Hamlin and Ridley to deal with the lawsuit filed by Hazel Hamrick who lost her son Darrell in the fire. But in depositions and other research into the case in the initial stages, the firm decided that the municipal employees could be put in conflict with one another. That's the reason another six law firms were hired to represent the employees separately.
