Gina Galbraith, Director of Career Resources

by Teresa Cajot
When she initially stepped into her role with the CRC in 2007, she had already developed a thorough knowledge of the legal marketplace. Immediately prior to joining CRC she served as the attorney placement director for Special Counsel, a major legal job search and placement company. In this position she handled attorney recruiting, candidate evaluation, and candidate preparation for permanent positions within the Houston and San Antonio markets.

Before that she spent four years practicing law in the Houston area, including one year at Germer Gertz Beamon & amp: Brown LLP, where she handled a range of issues including environmental and toxic tort matters.

Galbraith is a graduate of South Texas College of Law. She holds a BA in English, Speech Communication from the University of Houston and is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), ChildAdvocates, and others. She has also served as both a panelist and a speaker for a number of legal organizations.

Within South Texas College of Law, Galbraith and her staff strive to work with students beginning in their first year of law school. The CRC's First Year Focus offers programs on a range of topics including resume and cover letter writing and interview, networking, and professional skill development.

According to Galbraith, South Texas College of Law is ideal for the development of legal skills, due to its close proximity to law offices and legal service providers. The CRC staff is to assist students in finding volunteer, internship, externship, summer clerkships, and law clerking opportunities.

All students are encouraged to take advantage of the CRC's on- and off-campus interview programs, individualized job search plans, and the office's comprehensive resource library.

“We help students explore career options, build valuable job search skills, understand their strengths and abilities, and take responsibility for their own career planning in the process, ” says Galbraith.
