Veteran Attorney Takes Radio Gig

by Teresa Cajot
The initial show focused primarily on a new California law that toughens the punishment for repeat drunk driving offenders. Under the new law, those who are brought in on DUI charges three times within 10 years, could potentially lose their driver's license for as many as 10 years. In the past, the punishment was a six-month suspension followed by a restricted license and the mandatory use of an ignition interlock device. Additional issues addressed included DUI checkpoints, victims of drunk drivers, drunk driving prevention, the rights of those pulled over for a DUI, and social host laws.

“I'd like WEST OF LEGAL to look at the issues at hand, explore legal options that are available, and to provide listeners with resources that they can use to protect and educate themselves about their rights. Sometimes people are afraid to look at their legal rights because of misconceptions about the law and lawyers, and I want to dispel those myths,” said Seegmiller.

Seegmiller founded The West Seemiller Firm more than 30 years ago. The firm has California offices in Irvine, Riverside, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino, as well as a Las Vegas, Nevada office. Throughout his career Seegmiller has handled a range of personal injury lawsuits, wrongful death cases, catastrophic injury cases, and traumatic brain injuries. He specializes in collisions of all kinds including motorcycle, automobile, pedestrian, bicycle, aviation, train, commercial truck, and boat accidents. Additional areas covered include premises liability, product liability, nursing home negligence, dog bites, medical malpractice, and work-related accidents.

In addition to serving as a mediator, Seegmiller spent 10 years as a Pro Tem judge for the California Supreme Court and is a member of the Professional Association for the Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles, the American Bar Association, the Consumer Attorneys of California, the American Association for Justice, the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and the Elite Lawyers of America.

Seegmiller holds a JD from the McGeorge School of Law University of the Pacific in Sacramento, where he served as a member of the Pacific Law Review. Additionally, he attended the Harvard Law School Program of Instruction for Lawyers and The Jerry Spence Trial Lawyers College. He earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of California at Davis and holds a master's degree from the University of Southern California.

As a member of the Trial Lawyers Care organization, Seegmiller, along with more than 1000 other attorneys around the nation, assisted 1,700 families of victims impacted by the September 1, 2001 terrorist attacks. Through the Victims Federal Relief Fund, the largest pro bono project in the legal history of the nation, these families received extensive legal services at no charge. He also works with the Boy Scouts of America and volunteers for The Reinhart Foundation. Furthermore, Seegmiller has volunteered with Corazon to build homes for needy families in northern Mexico and has also provided indigent families in Cuba with medical and dental supplies. Along with some associates he has also traveled to Guatemala, where he provided stoves and water purifiers for families in need.
