Beaver Creek in Avon, CO.
Brian Head Resort is Utah's highest. Located in Brian Head, it offers more than 50 trails for all levels, as well as 12 freestyle areas. The longest run, Giant Steps, is 1.5 miles. They also offer snowboarding, snow tubing, ski bikes, and snowcat skiing and boarding, as well as night skiing. Prices range from $10 per person for snow tubing and night skiing to $34 for a half-day of skiing or $39 for a full day.* Brian Head also offers a complete adaptive ski program in six disciplines: Cognitive and developmental disabilities, visual impairment, and four others for paraplegics, quadriplegics, amputees, and post-polio disorders. Their Adult Winter Sports School provides all-inclusive packages for just $75 or "Get Better" lessons for only $10. Personal coaching is also available. www.brianhead.com

If you are looking for convenience, Apple Mountain in Freeland, MI, is the place for you. Located right in the heart of the tri-cities in mid-Michigan, the family-oriented ski resort has 12 slopes for all levels (though is mainly for beginners and intermediates), a 220-foot vertical drop, a quad chairlift, a snowboarding park with a half pipe, and 100% snowmaking capabilities. They also offer lighting for night skiing. Prices run from $20 to $30* during the day, depending on the time. You can purchase season passes too: $300 for individuals and $800 for families up to four members. Their Snow Sports School offers private lessons ($25/hour for an individual or $15 for groups), and do not let your kids miss all the fun. Children from four to six years of age can attend their Appleseed school ($36) and soon join you on the slopes. www.applemountain.com

North Carolina's Beech Mountain offers some of the best skiing in the South. Ski Beech is the highest ski resort in Eastern North America, with 15 slopes and 10 lifts for all levels. In addition, you can ice skate on their outdoor rink ($12/two hours) or enjoy snowboarding. Tickets for snowboarding and skiing run from $13 at night to $50 for a full day.* Season passes and coupon books are also available. Like Brian Head, Ski Beech offers adaptive lessons for both sit-down and stand-up snowsports. The ski school also offers everything from basic fundamentals to negotiating steep bump runs. Group lessons are $17/hour, and private lessons run $42/hour. They also offer Learn-to-ski packages for $45 or learn-to-snowboard packages for $55. www.skibeech.com

Campaw Mountain in Mahwah, NJ, is located only 18 miles from New York City. You can actually see the New York City skyline from its summit. The ski resort caters to beginners and intermediates and is known for its Skiwee program for children from three to seven years old (packages from $60 up to $210). They also offer a freestyle terrain park with half pipe and rails, two double chairlifts and up to six jaw-dropping 800-foot tubing runs. Rates for skiing and snowboarding run $15 - $30,* and season passes are available. Snow tubing includes rental and is $14 - $20 for two-hours. www.skicampgaw.com

If you want to head to one of the crème de la crème ski resorts, Beaver Creek in Avon, CO, one of Vail's premier resorts, would be just what you are looking for. With 146 trails and a run 3.5 miles long, you will certainly not be bored. Beaver Creek is also known for its elegance. You will find yourself in a secluded alpine village with a performing arts center, an outdoor ice rink, heated walkways and escalators to take you to the chairlift.

Tickets vary throughout the season, but run approximately $220 for three days to $300 for four days. Or enjoy a three-day package that includes lodging and beginner, intermediate, or advanced lessons with a lift ticket for all three days ($460). Full-day and half-day lessons are also available ($80 - $183). They also offer skiing and snowboarding lessons for children ($137 for a full day), an adaptive school ($205/half day and $320/full day, equipment included), and they can help find the perfect run for you. www.beavercreek.snow.com

So head to the slopes and then relax with a nice hot toddy by the fireplace when you are finished, even if your leg is now in traction. Just think of the stories you will have to share back at the office.
