Robert Higgins was born in 1969 and he began his education at the University of Maine where he earned his B.A. and B.S. in 1991. He graduated from Suffolk University with a J.D. in 1994 and was admitted to the bar the same year in Massachusetts. He built his practice in personal injury, medical malpractice, and medical negligence.

Attorney Robert Higgins has been voted by his peers to be among the ''Best Lawyers in Boston, 2008''. This award cannot be bought; it must be earned. The honors go to attorneys who have shown an outstanding contribution to the legal field. The top Boston Lawyers are also listed in ''Best Lawyers in America''. To remain on the ''Best Lawyers'' list in Boston, the attorney must demonstrate outstanding performance from year to year.

Another popular rating for lawyers and their firms comes from Martindale-Hubbell. The ''AV'' peer review rating is the highest and most distinctive a lawyer and his firm can receive. The rating indicates significant contribution and outstanding professional excellence. Attorney Robert Higgins and his firm received the ''AV'' rating.

Once again we find Attorney Robert Higgins at the top as he was chosen by his peers to be among the ''Top 100'' of all attorneys in Massachusetts and this honor is appropriately called ''The Super Lawyers''. When citizens from Massachusetts need an attorney for a particular type of case work, they can go to the lists compiled by all the attorneys in the state and find the top legal eagles best to handle their litigation. In this case, Robert Higgins would be at the top of the list for medical malpractice.

Indeed, it was Robert Higgins’ wins in the following cases that gained the accolades of his peers. They are both unfortunate tales to be told. The first is about a woman with Ewing's Sarcoma who after an experimental treatment of chemotherapy had 17 days of diarrhea. The doctors did not respond to her complaints and she died. The doctors did not know if the diarrhea was problematic or normal. They didn’t do anything; they just decided it was normal. Higgins believed that it was a clear mistake to the jury and they awarded the family $9.43 million. This case was the 4th largest settlement in Massachusetts in 2008.

The 5th largest settlement in Massachusetts in 2008 was for a 30 year old woman who went in for an elective surgery on her thyroid. After the 11 A.M. surgery she woke up complaining with abdominal pain and the surgeons went back in to relieve the patient’s abdomen of air. Two hours after she was sutured the women started loosing blood. By 5 P.M. that day she had cardiac arrest and doctors intubated the patient to assist her breathing. After another 6 hours passed the doctors made the decision to send her to Boston Medical Center. By then it was too late, the patient went into shock and died the next morning. The jury concluded for the plaintiff who was awarded $9.1 million.

These are sad stories but there was justice for the grieving families. This is the kind of justice Attorney Robert M. Higgins delivers.
