About 50% of students at the University of Chicago Law School Receive Scholarships

To be admitted to this high ranking Law School, one must achieve a median of 171 on the LSAT and have a median GPA of 3.64. There are only 200 seats available in the school each year and 5000 applications are received which makes it highly competitive to be accepted. The Law School has a program called a ''binding decision option'' which allows qualified students to submit their applications early but they must take their LSAT before December and sign a contract of commitment to attend the school if accepted. If there are some borderline students the Chicago Law School will call the student in for an interview. These interviews can only be scheduled by the school.

Law School tuition for 2008-2009 is $41,157 for a nine-month academic year. Students can also borrow the costs of housing and other living expenses. Currently about 50% of the law students receive scholarships and other financial aid available through government and private lending. Programs that allow students to work in public or government interests are the Hormel Public Interest Program and the Summer Public Interest Funding Program.


The Law school holds high rankings and distinction because of their excellent law school faculty. Their prestigious staff includes judges and politicians like President Barack Obama (now on a leave of absence). Abner Mikva, a former White House Counsel, member of Congress and D.C. Circuit judge, is one of the faculty members as well as an alumnus of Chicago Law.
