Lawyers Worry about Job Security; LawCrossing Lists 130,000 Legal Jobs to Relieve Job Seekers

Pasadena, CA — Legal professionals are putting in more and more billable hours in work, according to The Legal Intelligencer. The drastic attitude shift of associates and partners is said to be a result of rising apprehension of their job security amidst growing economic instability and incessant layoffs in various law firms. LawCrossing, the premier legal job research institution, added more than 15,000 new legal jobs to its site in a single week, giving more job options for anxious legal professionals. The total legal job count today stands at about 131,297 unfilled legal jobs.

''Work-life balance conversations, a hot topic among all types of lawyers, have been eclipsed totally due to the current economic downturn,'' says Harrison Barnes, CEO and founder of LawCrossing. ''Lawyers are more interested to preserve their jobs rather than maintaining a balance between their work and personal life. LawCrossing is striving to post more and more legal jobs to cater to the needs of growing number of out-of-work legal professionals. The job site is also trying to stabilize market conditions to relieve legal professionals of their apprehension.''

Of late, young professionals are focusing more on office time and billable hours, rather than work-life balance and flexibility. Most of them think that their jobs will be the first ones at stake if the law firm does not perform well. Most recently, McDermott Will & Emery LLP announced that it is laying off 60 legal professionals, or about 5% of its total workforce. Recently, San Francisco-based Morrison & Foerster announced that it is laying off more than 200 or 5% of its staff members, which include 53 attorneys and 148 staff members. Most of the firms confirmed that these layoffs were ''economic'' decisions and not based on job performance.

''Top law firms have always been offering extremely high salaries to first-year associates. The whole legal industry is now paying the price. But, if legal job seekers look at the right places, one can land a good position even in these tough times,'' adds Barnes.

LawCrossing is the pioneer in finding every legal job, and is the largest legal job board in the world. The site provides resources for law students, attorneys, and legal staffs alike, with active jobs totaling around 131,000 legal positions as of this week. ''We are strenuously searching for each and every resource to locate every legal job. The job count itself speaks volumes about our dedicated research,'' adds Barnes.
