Broadcom Named Chong New General Counsel

Broadcom Corporation, global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, announced Arthur Chong as the new Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. Chong, 55, will oversee Broadcom's legal, corporate secretary and governance, and litigation activities, reporting to Broadcom's President and CEO Scott A. McGregor. He joins Broadcom from Seattle-based Safeco Corporation, a property and casualty insurance company, where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer. Before joining Safeco in 2005, he spent over 20 years at McKesson Corporation, a healthcare services and information technology company based in San Francisco, where he most recently served as Deputy General Counsel. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Chong received his bachelor's degree at the University of California, Berkeley. Chong succeeds Alvin G. Segel, who has been serving as Acting General Counsel since May 2008.

First-Time General Counsel Chosen for AEGON UK
AEGON UK, life insurance and pensions provider, selected Marian Glen, Shepherd and Wedderburn corporate partner, as new general counsel. Glen will assume secretarial duties for AEGON UK and will counsel the company executive on legal and corporate governance issues. Glen reports to finance director Mark Laidlaw after officially filling the position in January of 2009.

Ciena Appoints David Rothenstein as General Counsel
Ciena^® Corporation, the network specialist, announced the appointment of David M. Rothenstein as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. In this capacity, Rothenstein will be responsible for all aspects and functions of Ciena's worldwide legal affairs, and will serve as an integral member of the Company's leadership team. Rothenstein replaces Russell B. Stevenson, Jr., who has retired following a seven-year tenure at Ciena. Rothenstein, who joined Ciena in 2001, has served as vice president and associate general counsel for the past four years, and previously as assistant general counsel. He will report to Ciena's President and CEO Gary B. Smith. Prior to joining Ciena, Rothenstein, 40, practiced corporate, employment and technology law as well as business litigation at Paley, Rothman, Goldstein, Rosenberg & Cooper, Chtd.
