MTV's New Legal Affairs Head Not Surprising
Sharifah Bailey, formerly Senior Legal Counsel at MTV Europe, business and legal affairs, emerging markets, is the new head of business for MTV Networks International. Bailey is now permanent after stepping in a month ago to temporarily fill the position Robert Cummins occupied before he left MTV for Satellite provider Intelsat. Bailey's new role includes dealing with MTV's legal responsibilities across Europe, Africa, Russia, and the Middle East. In the past two years Bailey led negotiations for the launching of MTV in Israel, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.
New GC Selected for Major Telecoms Companies
Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless have placed new general counsel this month. Charles Wunsch is now general counsel for Spring Nextel. He has worked for Sprint Nextel for 18 years and replaced Leonard Kennedy who quit the position. For Verizon, Randal Milch stepped up to plate, previously serving as Verizon's Business general counsel. He took over for William Barr who retired after serving as general counsel for eight years.
Lloyds TSB Led by HBOS GC Law Team
Harry Baines is assigned as the new general counsel for Lloyds TSB and will begin in January, when the merger is officially approved. Lloyds' merger with HBOS has set many management changes in motion. Lloyds' general counsel Margaret Coltman's future position is currently unknown. Publicized in September, the merger will be followed closely by external advisers and in-house lawyers.
