It was Overlawyered's ninth anniversary this past week. Overlawyered is the oldest legal blog in existence, even older than the term ''blog'' itself. Many siteshonoredOverlawyered for starting it all.
So in honor of Overlawyered, we'll look at some fun cases this week. First of all, there's the case of parents suing because the sun got in their son's eyes — at a baseball park. There's the chimpanzee who escaped — not just any chimp, but the most litigious chimp ever!
Up in Canada there was the poor mother who was reported for abusing her children, based only on the word of a psychic. Turns out they acted differently because they were autistic.
We had the case in Florida where a cat- and dognapping incident occurred, mixed in with blackmail and extortion. And then there was the case where students in England got credit on exams for using naughty words to insult the grader. Where were those graders when I took the bar?
In Texas a church conducted an exorcism on a young girl during which she got pretty well beat up, but the court allowed it. And Judge Elizabeth Halverson, a district judge in Nevada, was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation before her hearing before the judicial commission.
Then there was the lady who decided that gas prices were too high, so she sold her own, erm, personal services for gas.
And finally, from Overlawyered itself, there is the story of the West Virginia judge who openly admits to redistributing out-of-state corporations' money to in-state plaintiffs as a form of job security and has no qualms about it at all. What a rotten judge!
