Quintiles Hires New GC
Pharmaceutical services company Quintiles Transnational Corp. has hired John Goodacre as its new executive vice president and general counsel. A veteran to Quintiles, Goodacre joined the company in 1998 as its vice president of European legal affairs. He also served as the company's senior vice president of global risk management and quality assurance. Previously, however, Goodacre practiced law for more than 20 years in London. "John has a thorough understanding of Quintiles and the clinical research industry, having served the company in various capacities over the past 20 years," said Chairman and CEO of Quintiles Dennis Gillings regarding Goodacre.
First Solar Hires New GC
Solar module manufacturing company First Solar Inc. has hired John Gaffney as its new executive vice president and general counsel. Gaffney, who will begin on January 15, 2008, will be responsible for legal development, government affairs, and corporate communications activities. Previously, Gaffney was a partner at Cravath. He received his B.A. from George Washington University and his J.D. and MBA from New York University. "We have benefited greatly from John's advice and guidance, and we are honored that he has accepted our offer to expand his role by joining First Solar," said CEO Mike Ahearn regarding Gaffney.
AAR CORP.'s GC Retires
AAR CORP.'s current general counsel, Howard A. Pulsifer, will be retiring from his position starting June 1, 2008. Pulsifer, who has served as AAR's general counsel since 1987, previously worked in the legal department of United Airlines and as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. "Howard has…made significant contributions to the company as a highly valued member of our senior leadership team," said CEO and Chairman David P. Storch. "He has consistently provided sound guidance and sage counsel while playing a key role in AAR's corporate governance and serving our board of directors with distinction."
KKR Hires New GC
One of the world's largest private equity firms, Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co., has hired David Sorkin as its new general counsel. Sorkin, who is currently a partner at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett, will become a partner of KKR. In the past he has helped the firm with large deals, including the acquisition of RJR Nabisco. Sorkin "has been a trusted legal advisor to KKR for more than two decades on both M&A transactions and KKR's ongoing development," said one of KKR's co-founders, Henry Kravis.
Dow Jones Hires New GC
Dow Jones & Co. has hired Mark H. Jackson as its new executive vice president and general counsel; he will be leaving his current position as assistant general counsel of HarperCollins Publishers. Jackson, an alumnus of Cornell University and Cornell Law School, previously served as a partner at Squadron, Ellenoff, Plesent & Sheinfeld. "As someone who spent his legal career working with media companies," said Jackson, "I am excited to be joining one of the most distinguished. Dow Jones has a strong legal team, and I look forward to working with them during the company's next phase of growth."
