$120 Million Lawsuit against Law School - Settled?
By Robin Salisian
Kentucky law students have filed a class action suit against their law school's administration — for $120 million. The claims? ''[Engaging] in a breathtaking catalogue of wrongs, including racketeering, conspiracy, theft, wire fraud, mail fraud, extortion, and abuse of their offices in order to 'enrich themselves at the expense of the students,''' says an article.
More specifically, the American Justice School of Law students are claiming that Dean Paul Hendrick, Associate Dean Jarrod Turner, and board member Wayne Shelton delayed the distribution of student loans and instead invested the money to earn interest.
More specifically, the American Justice School of Law students are claiming that Dean Paul Hendrick, Associate Dean Jarrod Turner, and board member Wayne Shelton delayed the distribution of student loans and instead invested the money to earn interest. All three, however, denied the accusation.
Recently, the administration's attorneys have proposed a settlement to the students: both Hendrick and Turner would resign as deans but would continue to control the school's finances. They would submit quarterly reports to the board for review as well.
Former school board chairman and lawyer Tom Osborne, who represents the students, didn't believe the students would agree to the settlement.
"They're not going to agree for Hendrick and Turner to remain at the school in any capacity. That's not something that's negotiable with the students."
American Justice School of Law is located in Paducah, Kentucky, and "has not been accredited by the American Bar Association."
