Due to a recent oil spill in San Francisco, Audet & Partners, LLP, attorneys, on behalf of numerous representatives, filed a class action lawsuit to have the guilty vessel ''arrested'' and to ''keep [it] from leaving the San Francisco Bay,'' says a press release. Those affected by the spill include fishermen and boat operators, among others. And many beaches were closed, including Limantour Beach in Drakes Bay, because of the 58,000 gallons of fuel spilled.
''Our goal is [to] devote 100% [of] our firm's attention to the needs of our clients and the case,'' said Audet.
"We have been contacted by literally hundreds of ship owners and others whose livelihoods depend on clean ocean water and [who] have lost significant amounts of money directly due to the recent oil spill," said William M. Audet of Audet & Partners. "Under well-established maritime law, in these circumstances it is appropriate to make sure the vessel involved in the oil spill does not leave the jurisdiction of the United States."
And on November 20 their request was granted. The District Court "issued an order," and the vessel, a Hong Kong container ship named the Cosco Busan, will be arrested.
Other attorneys joined Audet in the class action, including maritime attorney Anthony Urie.
The San Francisco-based law firm Audet & Partners devotes its time to complex litigation.
