Commissioner under fire
Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who is being investigated by federal authorities, is being sued by a law firm. Kerik, who was a police commissioner during Rudy Giuliani's mayoral stint, is being sued for $200,000 by his former lawyers. Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP, filed papers in Manhattan's state Supreme Court stating that Kerik didn't pay more than $200,000 for legal services. The services were rendered by a former lawyer at the firm. Kenneth Breen, the lawyer who represents Kerik, moved to another firm.

Former partner pleads guilty
A former partner at a reputable law firm in New York pleaded guilty last week to conspiracy for his role in an action to bribe people to become plaintiffs in profitable class action lawsuits. Sixty-one-year-old William Lerach pleaded guilty to "one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice and making false statements," according to the Associated Press. His former law firm now goes by the name of Milberg Weiss.

"Super Lawyers" from Michigan
Attorneys from firm Plunkett Cooney were recently named in the Michigan Super Lawyers magazine. The 25 attorneys from the firm were on the 2007 list of "Super Lawyers," which was compiled using research and peer reviews. Plunkett Cooney was established in 1913, has 150 attorneys, and is one of the oldest and largest law firms in the Midwest.
