California fires close down law schools

The University of San Diego School of Law, California Western School of Law, and Pepperdine University School of Law were all directly endangered by the fires, with evacuations of local residents causing concern among students and faculty. At press time, there was no word on financial damages caused by the fires, but they have put a dent in course plans and construction planning.
Grant given to law school professors
Professors at the Arizona State University Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law received a research grant recently. The grant, which was provided to fund research on the legal effects of technology, was given to the Center for the Study of Law, Science, and Technology. Totaling $314,000, the grant came from the Department of Energy. Faculty will use the grant to offer legal models for the regulation of nanotechnology. The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law was also the first law school to offer a course on nanotechnology, so it is fitting that its scholars will conduct further research on the growing industry.
