<<"We are working to ensure that practicing law does not mean giving up a commitment to family, community, and dedicated service to clients," says the group's website, "By advocating for reforms to law firms we hope to help keep law both a business and a profession to be proud of."

Six months ago, the group centered on big law firms and the "soul-extinguishing billable hour requirements in favor of a more balanced working conditions;" today, they are ranking firms according to diversity, pro-bono, and once again, billable hours.

Stanford law student and Law Students' co-leader Andrew Bruck said, "It's time that we turn the tables a little bit. If I had an 'F' on my transcript why should they interview me? So if a firm gets an 'F,' why should I interview with them?"

And law firms, when seeking new hires, all "look the same," said Bruck in an article. The same glossy brochures, the same receptions, the same everything. But with BBLP, students can discover more than gloss—they can see the nitty-gritty details that their everyday life may be centered on. That, and Bruck hopes to "encourage" firms to improve.

So, how are law firms responding?

"I applaud them for looking at multiple factors," said chairman of Morrison & Foerster Keith Wetmore. "I think most law students do that already."

Khurshid Khoja at Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner said, "Numbers are definitely a good indicator about where a firm might be heading, but they're not the end-all, be-all."

"This study as well as other studies allows firms to keep their fingers on the pulse of what's going on in the markets and makes clear to firms that diversity is something that students take seriously," said Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk & Rabkin's Dipanwita Deb Amar. "Over time, law firms do listen to students who do effectively vote with their feet."
