The RIAA is cracking down on illegal downloading. | Already, nine other students settled with the RIAA for illegal downloading in mid-April, each paying a $3,000 settlement.
"College campuses have become one of the main targets for the RIAA since its initiative began in February 2007," said Carol Crimi, senior legal attorney for Student Legal Services. After all, "more than half of American college students download music illegally," says an article on media.www.stateronline.com.
The RIAA is also trying to find and punish students who download illegally because "there are a lot of people behind the scenes who are being hurt," said National Director of the Recording Artists' Coalition, Rebecca Greenberg. "The artist, the songwriters, side vocalists, side musicians. These people aren't being paid when their music is stolen."
