Marshall IP selects Ipswitch's WhatsUp Gold to optimize its network
Chicago-based Marshall, Gerstein & Borun, LLP, (Marshall IP) has implemented new software to manage and optimize its network. Provided by Ipswitch, Inc., WhatsUp Gold will help the law firm track network failures. It helps trace network assets and notifies administrators of potential problems. WhatsUp analyzes a network's performance and also manages switches, firewalls, routers, and broadband connections. Additionally, it handles printers, desktops, servers, and enterprise applications such as Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SQL Server. The intellectual property law firm has more than 200 staff members and maintains round-the-clock operations. Marshall IP depends on its network to provide 24-hour service to attorneys and staff working in areas including biotechnology, genetics, and optics.
Kilpatrick Stockton uses LifeSize Room for high-definition video communications
To make its firm-wide communications more effective, Kilpatrick Stockton has implemented LifeSize Room. The high-definition video-communications technology enables effective communications among multiple locations. The firm has purchased LifeSize Room through Videré Conferencing, a LifeSize channel partner. Videré has installed 11 systems in the firm's seven domestic offices. Kilpatrick Stockton uses LifeSize Room to carry out point-to-point meetings and to connect multiple sites for depositions, briefings, client interactions, and employment interviews. The system will save the firm valuable time that can be utilized for other billable functions. In a press release, David Gregson, CIO of Kilpatrick Stockton, said, "Upon consulting with Videré, we selected LifeSize based on the superior video and audio quality as well as the ease-of-use and management of the systems."
New workshop series to help law firms with effective marketing
Working together, Bristol Strategy Group and Legal Expert Connections have introduced SMART Way® for Lawyers, a series of three one-day workshops on sales training and law firm marketing. This is a new, specialized version of Selling the SMART Way®. The workshops are designed to offer attorneys and law firms means for effective time utilization, maximizing productivity, and market penetration. Bingham McCutchen expands in Southern California
Santa Monica's Alschuler Grossman has merged with national practice Bingham McCutchen, LLP. The move, which will provide Bingham McCutchen with a Santa Monica office, augments the firm's local strength by 40 attorneys. Alschuler Grossman, which focused its practice on business litigation, is expected to provide leverage to Bingham McCutchen's commercial, securities, and intellectual property litigation practices. The national firm's merger with Alschuler Grossman is its third merger with a California law firm in five years. The merger is expected to bolster Bingham McCutchen's reach in the Southern California market.
Moye White raids Cage Williams
Denver, CO-based Moye White, LLP, has announced the addition of prominent litigators James R. Cage and David A. Laird. Cage, who has been a partner with Cage Williams for the last 17 years, specializes in general commercial, civil, employment, product liability, intellectual property, real estate, and securities litigation. Laird, who also comes from Cage Williams, has served the firm for the last five years. He focuses his practice on complex commercial and construction litigation. Besides the litigation lawyers, experienced support staff from Cage Williams also joined Moye White. A commercial law firm, Moye White focuses on the areas of business, trial, and real estate law.
Buchanan Ingersoll adds former U.S. Representative along with his former aides
Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney has announced the appointment of former U.S. Representative Bill Thomas as an adviser to the firm and its clients. Although Thomas has joined Buchanan's Washington lobbying office, the firm maintains that he will only be an adviser. Thomas does not have a law degree. Joining the law firm along with Thomas are two of his former aides from when he was chair of the House Ways and Means Committee. Alex Brill has been appointed as an economic policy adviser; he was formerly the senior adviser and chief economist for the Ways and Means Committee. Robert Winters, former chief tax counsel for the committee, has joined the firm as a shareholder.
Kilpatrick Stockton website ranked third among websites of top 250 law firms
The "2006-2007 Internet Marketing Attorney Awards and Reviews" report ranks Kilpatrick Stockton's website third among the websites of the 250 largest law firms in the nation. The report states, "The site continues to blend design, content, and technology to near-perfection." Each firm's site was reviewed on a random date between June 2005 and April 2006. IMA spent an average of 20 minutes surfing each site. The websites were rated on the basis of design, usability, content, interactivity, and intangibles. Kilpatrick Stockton has 500 attorneys working from nine offices across the globe.
