This week, Danny Katz, a singer, songwriter, and paralegal in New York, tells LawCrossing how he got his job:
"Legal Options, a small agency that specializes in providing legal support staff to various firms, reached out to me through Sarah Lawrence's career counseling center, and I interviewed with Fish & Neave (now Ropes & Gray) and was hired as a legal assistant in the foreign patent prosecution division. While there, I became friends with several members of the trademark department and became more interested in the field. I left to work at another IP firm, where I was able to do both foreign patent prosecution and trademark work. I then moved to my third IP firm, as I had an opportunity there to work non-traditional hours (so that I could focus on music) as well as take on the challenges of working for a senior partner. When I ultimately decided to switch to part-time, I made the transition to a general-practice firm that had of-counsel members working in commercial, white-collar criminal, and employment litigation and matrimonial/family law. I then switched back to trademark law."
I recently found an in-house position in Tennessee. LawCrossing was extremely helpful in my job search. Lowell
