IP and technology attorney Steven Weinberg joins Greenberg Glusker as a partner
Los Angeles-based Greenberg Glusker recently announced that prominent intellectual property and technology attorney Steven Weinberg has joined the firm as a partner. After making 2006 one of the most financially successful years in the firm's history, Greenberg Glusker has continued its aggressive growth. Weinberg is the third prominent lateral partner to have joined the firm in the last six weeks. Over the past 20-plus years, his practice has focused on transactions, counseling, and litigation relating to branding, licensing and trademarks, copyrights and digital rights, publishing, software and online deals, IP and digital rights management, and advertising and marketing in all media. Weinberg joins Greenberg Glusker from Greenberg Traurig, where he worked for six years.

Shackelford, Melton & McKinley, LLP, welcomes two new partners
Joseph G. Chumlea and Mark S. McQuality recently joined Dallas-based Shackelford, Melton & McKinley, LLP. Chumlea practices in the area of commercial litigation—which includes general business, real estate, collections, product sales, and warranty contracts—in all state and federal courts. McQuality practices mainly in the areas of litigation and dispute resolution, residential and commercial construction and development, and real estate insurance and commercial law.

Michael Jacobs joins former colleagues at Reed Smith, LLP
Reed Smith, LLP, one of the 15 largest law firms in the world, has reached another growth milestone; it now has the largest state tax controversy practice in the nation. The firm recently added another partner in Philadelphia to the group, which recently moved from Dechert. Michael Jacobs joins the firm's regulatory litigation practice, where he will continue his work on state tax controversy matters. Jacobs was formerly a member of the state and local tax group in the Philadelphia office of Dechert. He joins his former Dechert colleagues Lee Zoeller, Kyle Sollie, David Kraus, and Frank Gallo, who moved to Reed Smith's Philadelphia office as partners in the tax-controversy practice in late February. In addition to state tax controversy matters, Jacob's practice emphasizes state tax planning in connection with business transactions, including advising public and private companies with respect to tax-free reorganizations and taxable acquisitions. He also counsels clients on the tax treatment of restricted stock, stock options, and the application of golden-parachute rules.

Retired district court judge Michael R. Griffin joins Kummer, Kaempfer, Bonner, Renshaw & Ferrario to lead its mediation and arbitration practice
Kummer, Kaempfer, Bonner, Renshaw & Ferrario welcomed recently retired district court judge Michael R. Griffin as of counsel in the firm's Reno office. He will lead Kummer Kaempfer's statewide arbitration practice. Griffin, a native Nevadan who spent 28 years on the bench, will use his extensive experience to help clients as a mediator or arbitrator in complex areas of law.
