<<The first in her family to attend law school, Kovacs said she decided to study law because it provides opportunities to face different issues and different people every day and encompasses knowledge of a variety of substantive areas.

"It presents so many challenges," Kovacs said. "It requires dedication, critical thinking, and people and communication skills.

"I am interested in a lot of different things, enjoy interaction with people, and am a very committed person—this logically led me to law."

Planning to compete on IUPUI's ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition team in DC in March, Kovacs said she has a strong team and is looking forward to it. The team competed in New York last year, and it is one of her favorite activities because the national coaches bring practitioner judges in to give feedback during practice arguments.

Q. What's your favorite law school memory so far?
A. Hands down, a camping trip several of my classmates and I took to Mammoth Cave over fall break!
Q. What do you do for fun?
A. When I'm not in school, I'm likely riding my bike.
Q. What CD is in your CD player right now?
A. Better than Ezra, Greatest Hits.
Q. What is the last magazine you read?
A. I wish I had more time for non-school-related reading...I've probably flipped through Cycle Sport or Velo News most recently.
Q. What is your favorite TV show?
A. The Sopranos or Project Runway. There's no way I could choose between the two.
Q. What is something most people don't know about you?
A. I'm deathly afraid of fish, and I like to sew. Now I'll probably be the laughingstock of the school, but I suppose that's okay.

What Kovacs enjoys most about the law, she said, is the lack of a clear-cut right answer in every aspect and the discussion and arguments on each side of every issue. Her favorite courses are the hands-on courses like moot court because they are practical and require the ability to use legal skills. An athlete, she is also enjoying third-year courses such as Sports Law.

<<Kovacs was triumphant last fall at the National Collegiate Cycling Association's national championships at the Major Taylor Velodrome in Indianapolis. Winning first place in the women's two-kilometer individual pursuit race, Kovacs was also part of IU's winning team for the women's Olympic pursuit battle, which raced college teams from coast to coast. Additionally, Kovacs was made a member of the Indiana University Little 500 Hall of Fame for her achievements in that internationally renowned race and competes nationally during summers as a member of the Texas Roadhouse cycling team.

"Cycling is an incredible way to relieve stress and stay in shape, and through it, I've met a lot of incredible people and had some amazing experiences," Kovacs said.

Although she foresees that cycling will remain a part of her life for the long term, a career as a professional cyclist will have to take a backseat to her ambition to become a litigator and partner in her own law firm.
