WinScribe nominated for two Legal Technology awards
The Legal Technology Awards, in association with Legal Technology Journal, has nominated WinScribe, a leading provider of digital dictation software, for two awards. The company has been recognized for providing excellent technological solutions that benefit law firms. The "Technology Innovation of the Year Award" nomination recognizes WinScribe for its 360 Degrees application, which helps law firms keep track of data outsourced to transcription service providers. WinScribe's digital dictation application assists authors with creating and tracking dictations, regardless of where the documents are being transcribed. WinScribe was also nominated for the "Legal Technology Journal Award for Contribution to Law Firm Success," in recognition of services to law firm Putsmans that enabled the firm to obtain more accurate and efficiently delivered transcriptions and improve working relationships between lawyers and secretaries.
Sutherland Asbill opens mock courtroom
Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan's Atlanta office's new $1.4-million Elbert P. Tuttle Courtroom will allow the firm's litigators to practice delivering arguments and trying cases in a realistic setting. The 4,370-square-foot mock courtroom features a jury box, judges' chambers, and jury rooms, and it is equipped with the latest courtroom technology solutions (provided by United Technology Service, Inc.). The courtroom's digital evidence presentation systems support real-time reporting, web access, and videoconferencing. Sutherland Asbill is the third law firm in Atlanta to open a mock courtroom.
From law clerk to associate
Having served as a law clerk and summer associate at Burns, White & Hickton, LLC, in 2005, Amanda R. Braunecker has now been appointed as an associate in the firm's transportation group. Braunecker focuses her practice on railroad litigation and discovery coordination. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh with a concentration in civil litigation and is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania. A 70-lawyer firm, Burns, White & Hickton focuses on transportation, litigation, and business law and employs a staff of more than 50 professionals, including paralegals, information technology specialists, and administrators.
Former Air Force attorneys launch law firm
Four former Air Force defense lawyers have joined hands to create a law firm that will concentrate on the defense of military members facing criminal charges. Gagne, Scherer & Langemo, LLC, is run by former JAG trial attorneys Greg Gagne, Keith Scherer, Tory Langemo, and Doug Rawald, all of whom have gained significant experience in the courtroom. The national law firm defends military members in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard.
District attorney heading for law firm
District Attorney for Waukesha County Paul Bucher has announced his intention to join New Berlin-based Gatzke & Ruppelt, SC. After an unsuccessful bid for the attorney general's post this fall, Bucher has decided not to run for reelection as District Attorney, a post in which he has served for more than 18 years. At Gatzke & Ruppelt, he will concentrate on litigation, federal civil rights, election law, and victimology litigation. The firm specializes in the areas of personal injury, criminal law, OWI defense, family law, appeals, employment law, and real estate.
Kilpatrick Stockton appoints collaborative managing partners
AmLaw 100 law firm Kilpatrick Stockton has named Bill Dorris and Diane Prucino Managing Partners. The duo will succeed Bill Brewster, who has served as Managing Partner of the law firm for six years. Dorris will focus on client service and practice management, and Prucino will oversee attorney development. With more than 500 attorneys, Kilpatrick Stockton has U.S. offices in Atlanta, Augusta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Winston-Salem, New York, and Washington, DC, as well as international offices in London and Stockholm.
Fried Frank expands into Hong Kong
In collaboration with Hong Kong law firm Huen Wong & Company, New York-based Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, LLP, has announced the launch of its Hong Kong office. Combining its services with Huen Wong's mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, real estate, and litigation practices, the Hong Kong location will allow Fried Frank's clients to access its U.S., European, and international expertise in various areas. With 120 lawyers working in offices outside the U.S., Fried Frank is rapidly expanding its presence in the international arena.
DLA Piper hires financial regulatory partner for Dubai office
As part of its Middle East expansion program, DLA Piper has appointed Al-Harith Sinclair as a partner in its regional financial regulatory practice in Dubai. Working alongside Jayshree Gupta, head of the Dubai office, Sinclair will build business with international and local financial institutions in the region. A UK financial regulatory lawyer, Sinclair comes from the London office of Pinsent Masons, where he was a partner. He has had 10 years of experience practicing in London and focuses on investment bank regulation, financial services regulation, and finance-related mergers and acquisitions.
