Mayer Brown in major expansion mood
International law firm Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw is in the midst of revamping its finance and private equity practices. The move comes in the wake of the firm's decision to muscle up its New York office with new leaders, after four of its partners deserted the firm to join Morrison & Foerster. In an attempt to restructure its present capacity, seniors have been promoted to new positions. While continuing in the New York office, former joint partner Brian Trust has been elevated to take charge of the firm's financial restructuring and bankruptcy practice, in addition to handling complex bankruptcy reorganizations, restructurings, and financings. Hector Gonzalez and John Ferrell will join Trust as partners in New York. The firm's intention to enhance its strength globally substantiates its decision to hire Gary Jungels and Olga Loy, experts in buyout, venture, and other private equity funds, as partners to lead the expansion of the firm's Chicago private equity fund formation practice. The firm's New York office opened in 1978, and more than 200 attorneys are currently engaged in advising clients in the private and project financing, securitization, bank regulations, capital markets, corporate, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, leveraged leasing and restructurings, real estate, and tax advice areas.
