ATLA names new VP
During its 60th annual convention, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America elected Les Weisbrod as its new Vice President. He will serve a one-year term. A partner at Morgan & Weisbrod, Weisbrod was Secretary of the Association last year and specializes in medical malpractice and medicine product matters. While shielding the democratic outlook of the civil justice system, the Association helps attorneys with information and professional assistance required to serve clients effectively and successfully.
Holland & Knight ranked #1 in wealth management practice
The wealth management practice of Holland & Knight has earned the top slot in Chambers USA's report "America's Leading Business Lawyers 2006." Edward F. Koren, Jr., Chair of the law firm's private wealth services group, received individual recognition from Chambers. The firm also received the top position in its shipping and aviation transportation practice and has 74 lawyers selected by the Chambers this year. Winston & Strawn bolsters corporate practice
Leading corporate lawyer Carl L. Liederman has been added to the corporate practice of Winston & Strawn, LLP's Geneva office. Prior to the appointment, he was heading the European mergers and acquisitions practice of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. Liederman has significant experience in cross-border transactions, especially in London and Paris, and has expertise in private and public debt and securities offerings. CPSC Chairman joins Dykema Gossett
Former U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Chairman Hal Stratton has joined the Washington, DC, office of law firm Dykema Gossett, PLLC. Stratton will be advising companies on safety regulations and has specialized knowledge on various federal regulatory agencies. He served four years in the New Mexico House of Representatives and was Attorney General of New Mexico from 1987 to 1990. With around 400 lawyers and professionals, Dykema Gossett is a full-service law firm with offices in California, Illinois, Michigan, and Washington, DC.
DLA Piper strengthens operations in Europe
DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary has embarked on strengthening its operations in Europe by appointing partners. Inducted to its Paris office is Frederic Bucher, who has expertise in M&A, private equity, and cross-border transactional work. In a similar development, the firm has hired Giangiacomo Olivi in its Italy office; he has expertise in regulatory and licensing work for international media companies. The hiring has increased the partner strength of its Paris office to 10 and the Milan office to 12. Italy offers opportunities for growth in the technology and media markets, and the firm's latest moves will propel its efforts to acquire a major market share in the region.
