New GC at General Motors
Robert Osborne has been named group vice president and general counsel of General Motors (NYSE: GM), effective September 1. In addition to becoming a member of the Automotive Strategy Board, Osborne will succeed Tom Gottschalk, who will continue as executive vice president of law and public policy. Since 2002, Osborne has been working with law firm Jenner & Block as senior partner, specializing in mergers, acquisitions, and securities transactions. Having represented General Motors on high-profile strategic transactions for more than 20 years, Osborne has both expertise and knowledge of the company. As the world's largest automaker, General Motors has 75 years of sales experience and 327,000 employees working in locations all over the globe.

Cabrera named GC at Synopsis
Brian Cabrera has been appointed as the General Counsel, Vice President, and Secretary of Synopsys, Inc., a leading semiconductor design software provider. With nearly 18 years of software and hardware experience at Synopsys, Cabrera will manage all legal matters while reporting to Chief Financial Officer Brian Beattie. Cabrera comes from Callidus Software Inc., where he served as Senior Vice President, Secretary, and General Counsel. Synopsys, Inc., a well known electronic company, is headquartered at Mountain View, CA, and has more than 60 offices in Northern America, Japan, Asia, and Europe.

New deputy general counsel in SEC
Andrew Vollmer has been appointed as deputy general counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and will assist in managing the Commission's 100-lawyer strong in-house team. Prior to joining the SEC, Vollmer served as the vice-chair of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP's securities group in Washington, DC. He specializes in securities matters and has experience in representing clients subject to enforcement investigations by the SEC. With several notable cases to his credit, Vollmer succeeds Meyer Eisenberg, who retired from the Commission in January.

June Morris, new GC at Picis
June Morris has been named General Counsel, Senior Vice President, and Secretary for the Board of Directors at Picis. She brings in 20 years of experience in the field of information technology. Prior to this appointment, Morris served as General Counsel and Vice President at Pegasystems, Inc. Picis, a leading provider for the latest healthcare technology, is headquartered in Wakefield, Massachusetts. It has installed systems in more than 1,000 medical centers and hospital networks all over the world.

David Schwiesow joins Deltek
David Schwiesow has been appointed General Counsel at Deltek. David has 30 years of experience in finance, acquisition, litigation, securities, and corporate matters. Most recently, David served as Deputy General Counsel, Managing Director, and Vice President at Bearing Point where he supervised 17,000 employees in all aspects of general and corporate securities matters. Deltek is a top provider of enterprise management software for project-focused organizations. Established in 1983, Deltek now has 11,000 customers throughout the world.

Elizabeth Edelman-the new GC at Swett & Crawford
Atlanta-based leading insurance broker, Swett & Crawford Group, has appointed Elizabeth Edelman as its new General Counsel. As the former General Counsel, Vice President, and Corporate Secretary of RBC Centura Bank, Edelman brings with her more than 20 years of legal and banking experience. Prior to this, she counseled Security First Network Bank and Heller Financial. Swett & Crawford has delivered exceptional services to the commercial insurance marketplace for more than 91 years, placing nearly $2.5 billion in premium during the most recent fiscal year.

Tasty Baking announces new GC
Laurence Weilheimer has been appointed General Counsel of Tasty Baking Company. He will be overseeing all legal matters, including corporate governance, SEC and regulatory compliance, commercial contracting, and general legal services. In his previous position at Towers, Perrin, Forster & Crosby, Inc., Laurence dealt with the legalities of business development activities for more than 15 years. Tasty Baking Company, one of the country's leading bakeries, was founded in 1914 and is headquartered in Philadelphia.

New GC at Danaher
Jonathan P. Graham has joined Danaher Corporation (NYSE: DHR) as General Counsel and Senior Vice President. Previously serving General Electric Corporation, Graham will now report directly to H. Lawrence Culp, Jr., the President and Chief Executive Officer. Danaher Corporation is a leading manufacturing company, producing professional instrumentation, industrial technologies, and tools and components.

IT company has new GC
AVIEL Systems, Inc., one of the largest providers of information technology services to the U.S. government, has appointed Jodee McGrath as the new General Counsel and Ethics Officer. Bringing in a wealth of experience from the information technology and technical services industries, Jodee will provide legal support to AVIEL's various departments and manage a comprehensive ethics program for the company. AVIEL Systems, Inc. is comprised of two subsidiaries, OPTIMUS Corporation and Performance Management Consulting, Inc., both of which have been serving the U.S. government since 1992.

Northwest Airlines GC to retire
Barry Simon, General Counsel of Northwest Airlines Corporation, will retire on June 30 due to health complications. About a year and a half ago, he was diagnosed with cancer. Simon joined the company in October 2004 and has 30 years of experience in the airlines industry. Specializing in bankruptcy, he has been instrumental in bankruptcy filing at Continental and Eastern airlines. He was also at Northwest when it filed for bankruptcy protection in September. Northwest Airlines, the world's fifth largest airline, operates in 900 cities in 160 countries across the world. With 1,200 daily departures, it has hubs in Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Memphis, Tokyo, and Amsterdam.
